Safety, Medical Care and Individual Suitability

This is the most important page on this website. If you read nothing else here, read this. It sets out what hypnotherapy is not, what must never change because of it, and when you should be speaking to a healthcare professional rather than to us.

One

Medical Care Comes First

Hypnotherapy is not a replacement for medical diagnosis, treatment, insulin, prescribed medication or blood glucose monitoring.

Every part of your medical care continues exactly as your healthcare professional has advised. A complementary approach sits alongside that care, adding nothing to it clinically and taking nothing away from it.

If there is ever a conflict between something on this website and something your healthcare professional has told you, follow your healthcare professional. Without exception.

What this approach never involves

  • Diagnosing any condition, or commenting on whether you have one.
  • Interpreting your blood glucose readings or test results.
  • Advising on medication, insulin, dosage or timing.
  • Prescribing a diet, an eating plan or an exercise programme.
  • Suggesting that any medical appointment can be delayed or skipped.

What it may involve, where appropriate

  • Conversation about how a person is finding day-to-day life.
  • Relaxation, offered as an experience some people value.
  • Focused attention and guided imagery, with full participation.
  • Discussion of motivation and everyday routines the person has chosen.
  • A clear recommendation to speak to a professional where that is needed.

Two

Medication and Insulin

This section exists because getting it wrong could cause real harm. It is written as directly as possible.

Do not change anything that has been prescribed

Do not start, stop, reduce or change prescribed medication or insulin based on information provided on this website or through hypnotherapy alone. Treatment decisions should be discussed with an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

This holds true even if you feel calmer, even if you feel better than you have in a long time, and even if you feel that something has changed for you. How a person feels is not a substitute for medical assessment, and only your healthcare professional can decide whether anything in your treatment should be adjusted.

Worth taking to your appointment

If you are considering a complementary approach, telling your healthcare professional is a reasonable and sensible thing to do. It keeps the person responsible for your care fully informed, and it costs you nothing.

Three

Individual Suitability

Hypnotherapy is not appropriate for everyone, and it is not claimed to be. Suitability is considered individually, and there are perfectly good reasons why the answer for a particular person may be no.

Individual circumstances

Personal history, current health, other conditions and what else is happening in someone's life all matter, and they differ for everyone.

Goals

Some goals are reasonable to explore. Others are outside what this approach can appropriately address, and it is better to say so at the outset.

Existing medical care

A complementary approach assumes appropriate medical care is already in place. Where it is not, arranging that comes first.

Emotional wellbeing

Where emotional difficulties are significant or persistent, support from a qualified healthcare or mental health professional is the appropriate route.

Personal willingness

This approach relies on participation. Someone attending because another person insisted is unlikely to find it useful, and that is worth acknowledging early.

And if the answer is no

Then it is no, and it is said plainly. Declining to work with someone when it would not be appropriate is a part of practising responsibly.

Four

When Urgent Medical Help May Be Needed

This website is not for emergencies

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, or you are worried about your immediate health or safety, contact your doctor or your local emergency medical services straight away. Please do not delay in order to read a website, send an enquiry, or wait for a reply.

The same applies if you are concerned about someone else. Emergency contact numbers differ by country and region, so use the emergency service that applies where you are.

Enquiries sent through this website are not monitored continuously, and there is no facility here for urgent or emergency contact. This page cannot tell you whether a particular symptom is urgent, because that judgement requires a qualified healthcare professional who can assess the situation properly.

Five

Claims you will never find on this website

Because they would be untrue, and because claims like these can lead people to make genuinely dangerous decisions about their health.

  • That hypnotherapy cures diabetes naturally.
  • That diabetes can be reversed with hypnosis.
  • That insulin can be stopped through hypnotherapy.
  • That blood sugar control can be guaranteed.
  • That one session can cure anything at all.
  • That hypnotherapy replaces a diabetologist or any doctor.
  • That hypnosis can normalise blood glucose.
  • That results are permanent, certain or the same for everyone.

You will also find no invented statistics, no fabricated research, no fictional case studies presented as real, and no testimonials on this website. Where information could not be verified, it has been left out rather than made up.

Questions about suitability

If you are unsure whether this is appropriate for you, please ask

An honest conversation about suitability, including the possibility that the answer is no, is always available. Anything clinical belongs with your healthcare professional.
